Tax Day
There’s something very nice about being able to enjoy the reward for our hard labors. Last week we celebrated my husband’s birthday. He teasingly smiled and said if he should precede me in death I am to put “No more death. No more taxes”, on his tombstone.
Wouldn’t it be nice if April 15th were just another day on the calendar? Instead it conjures up thoughts of obligations to the government. I always wonder why I have to pay interest to the government if we guessed too low, but they don’t have to pay interest to me if we guessed high?

Wife Swamp
Swamp: “A shallow body of water in a low-lying, poorly drained depression… a tract of wet, spongy land, often having a growth of certain types of vegetation, but unfit for cultivation…Deep in the heart of Louisiana lies America’s largest swamp–a million miles of inhospitable bayous, marshes and wetlands where nature rules and humans struggle..”
We are in a cultural swamp, created by a moral swamp. Many of us are asking, “How do we get out of this swamp?”
I did my part last week when I fought for our side of the marriage debate on Channel 5 in St. Louis.

Humiliating People
Who is the servant?
Anyone who has had to travel on an airplane knows the frustration of being frisked by the TSA. The last time I flew, the woman inspecting me went over each of my limbs twice. Some equate this with the way the German authorities tried to humiliate their citizens into submission. It’s bad enough having the TSA in all the airports http://www.foxnews.com/travel/2013/03/05/tsa-changing-carry-on-rules-can-create-confusion-for-travelers/
but now our national government is using the power of the USDA to shut down the raw milk farmers. http://articles.ky3.com/2013-01-25/missouri-s-milk-board_36553599

Snow
Several years ago when we were living in Massachusetts, we had a snow storm like this on May 10th. Somehow, we don’t expect it to be snowing after the first day of Spring. The weatherman urged everyone to stay home saying, “They’re not plowing the roads so you can go get a cheeseburger.” It seems like we have lost the joy or simple serenity.

Honesty – A Healthy Dose of Reality
For months we’ve heard people complaining about how bad it is to have “a third party”.We need to realize we already have three major parties:
Party # 1 — Democrats
Party # 2 — Republicans-Establishment Type
Party # 3 — Republicans-Grassroots Type -
Green Myths
Balancing Political Correctness with Honesty
Cynthia Davis with some ladies from the Peoria Women’s Connection. Now that March is here, everything is suddenly looking greener. Last month I traveled to Harrison, Arkansas; Branson, Missouri; Bloomington and Peoria, Illinois to share the good news that there is a better way. As we hear some alarming environmentalists claim our planet is on a path of destruction, it is time for hope and encouragement from the other side of the spectrum. -
Gun Laws – Looking in all the wrong places
The way things are going, if Obama would threaten to ban the Bibles, it might increase our sales. (www.backtobasicsbooks.com)
As the gun and ammunition dealers are seeing customers line up to buy their products, it appears as if more people value their guns than Bibles.
Legislators are clamoring to file new gun laws right and left. E-mail messages are flying with concerns from all corners of the spectrum. If you live in Missouri, you can be confident that there are enough gun sympathizers from both parties that the legislature will likely not do anything to restrict our current rights. Sometimes it appears that the legislators are filing bills just to see how much everyone will react. My big brother used to try to scare me and sometimes it worked, but it’s not nice to treat your constituents that way. The only acceptable solution is to refuse the urge to panic.

How to Win
What is the right response to those who want to get rid of social conservatives?
Pictured with Phyllis Schlafly, Mike McManus, David Usher and other champions of the family. TownHall.com published my article on the future of social conservatives:We now live in a time where social welfare incentives have engendered unprecedented numbers of unmarried parents, causing record deficits. The inability to address this issue has politically-hobbled every Republican president since Reagan. Our government needs to take responsibility for creating this monster and start on a new path of adopting policies that are good for families. -
Intentional Grounding
A Football Primer
We’re looking forward to the Super Bowl this weekend. My husband patiently explains much of the game to me as it progresses. Football is filled with lessons that can help us understand other facets of life and politics. Intentional grounding is when the quarterback throws away the ball on purpose to avoid being tackled and losing yards.
There is a reasonable for this rule against such action, because it reflects poor sportsmanship to purposely throw the ball away when everyone knows there is no receiver available. The team is supposed to try another play to regain those yards when they are better composed, not through rule breaking.

Home Front – Starting tonight, you have options!
The airwaves are filled with pointless hand wringing as commentators bemoan the condition of our country. It’s enough to make you want to turn off the TV and radio. Why do we want to hear more bad news?
Well, I’m doing something about it.Tonight I am starting my own Internet radio show. You can listen live Tuesday, January 8th from 8-9 pm, or even listen later when it may be more convenient. I will be on every Tuesday night from 8-9 pm.
