  • It’s For The Children

    Its for the Children 1 - 250Its for the Children 5 - 250

Fall is especially fun for our family because we celebrate our wedding anniversary and the births of three children.

Some of my Libertarian friends ask why marriage should be noticed by government.  From all external appearances, we look like one of the most selfish generations in the history of America.  People are divorcing, using drugs, drinking and refusing to work for their own personal happiness. Substance abuse is a factor in 70% of all domestic violence cases.   As the social indicators continue marking the decline of families, it is becoming more obvious that the more self centered we become, the less we invest in our families, churches, neighborhoods and communities.

  • Happy Constitution Day!

Happy Constitution Day 1A few weeks ago I met Cal Zastrow when he was passing through St. Louis.  Cal is in this video modeling to the country how to be loving and also firm when standing up for the principles of life:

Some of you may not realize that today is Constitution Day. That is the day the Continental Congress signed our US Constitution into law in 1787.
The United States Department of Defense web site about the U.S. Constitution.

As a State Legislator for Missouri, the National Conference of State Legislators, (NCSL), provided me with promotional materials to offer to my local schools publicizing Constitution Day.  NCSL was relying on me to use my vast contacts to get these videos into the hands of the teachers who could use them to teach their school children.  There was only one problem.  They didn’t get the story correct.   Many legislators thought passing a mandate would make sure our students would understand our country better.  http://constitutionday.cpms.osd.mil/ but it can only be positive if the education is historically and academically accurate.  What is “politically correct” isn’t always correct.

  • Life & War

    Life & War 1-500

This week, Bernie and I welcomed our newest grandchild into our family.  Much gratitude goes to God, John and Emily.  The new baby is Cora Marilyn Davis.  For those of you who are counting, this puts us up to seven grandchildren!

Can anyone watch the story about the bombing of Syria and understand why our leaders can have a hypocritical philosophy?  I have yet to talk with one person who thinks we should bomb Syria.  Try to explain it to a child and you may hear yourself say, “They were killing people, so we thought we would kill people who are killing people, especially those who are killing the people who killed our people on 9/11.”

It is especially hard to hear Nancy Pelosi talking about her five year old grandson about how bad it is that they killed children knowing her conscience is missing when it comes to killing children if they are pre-born.  Additionally, where is the moral indignation of the president over all the Christians that are now being brutally tortured, maimed and executed now that he has destabilized their counties?

  • Phyllis Schlafly

    Phyllis Schlafly1

She is known as a “Conservative Icon”.  This photo was taken when Phyllis Schlafly did a fund raiser for one of my campaigns.   We had a memorable night with Martin Duggan and Bill Federer and many were inspired.

Phyllis Schlafly became famous over her efforts to reform the Republican Party with her first book, A Choice, Not an Echo.

Today, the GOP “Kingmakers” are still working against the success of many grassroots candidates.  We have won a few small battles, yet it appears we are losing the war.  Back in 1964 when the book was written, TSA had not been invented and we Americans would never tolerate strangers groping us if we want to get on an airplane.  Social Security was a retirement program for those who paid into it.  People expected privacy with their medical records and e-mail communications.  The Democrats of 40 years ago were acting like the Republicans of today.  “The American Spirit” was stronger and more unified.  We had more publicly held common morality.

  • The Real Sheriff

The Real Sheriff 1The Real Sheriff 2A few weeks ago, I met with Washington State Representative Matt Shea and Tim Baldwin (son of Chuck Baldwin) at the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Convention in St. Charles.

You might remember when John McCain was running for president, he told the nation that the other senators call him, “The Sheriff”.  Either he was only kidding or the other senators were ignorant of the duties of a sheriff or they would have known the nick name did not apply to him.  Tonight we have a show with Sheriff Richard Mack, a man who is more worthy of the title, Sheriff, than most.  He took the time to study his oath of office and commit to actually performing the duties required—to preserve  protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.  For him, as it was for me, public service is not just a job—it’s a calling.  Unlike most officeholders, we believe our accountability will be measured at the end of our lives by the Ultimate Judge for every thought, word and deed.

  • Truth in Love

    Truth in Love 1
I went to the O’Fallon Chamber of Commerce legislative event last week and ran into some friends.

We all have a part to play in making the world a better place.  It is the moral duty of all of us to determine what we should be doing with our time and energy.  Recently I came across a moving story of a man in the State of  Washington who ran for Governor.  He ran as a Republican but received fewer votes than the person who ran on the Constitution Party ticket.  The lesson here is that conservatives seem to be losing regardless of their political party affiliation.  We are living in difficult times—especially those who believe in the first amendment right to our freedom of speech.

  • New Laws

    HF1

We took the kids to the zoo on Saturday.  It is one of the gems of the St. Louis area.  As I was there, it occurred to me that a Merry-Go-Round is a good way to describe the legislative session.   Bad bills continue to be reintroduced.  Good bills continue to spin around in orbit.  Some are so absorbed in the music and waving to the spectators that they hardly notice that another year has passed.  Usually, very little is accomplished because government is inclined to be inefficient.  However, this year was the first time in Missouri the Republicans had a Super-Majority in both the House and the Senate.  That means a veto-proof number of legislators should be able to accomplish whatever the leadership directs to happen.

  • Elections

    Home Front 1

For months now, people have been feeling burned out on elections.  Since it is the “off-season”, you may wonder why even talk about elections.  While we are all sitting around the swimming pools and enjoying watermelon, time is ticking.  Filing for the 2014 elections is only 7 months away and candidates are already working up a sweat to line up their networks and stuff their bank accounts.

  • The Race Question

    Race Question 1_400p

How do we make the world a better place?  Hint:  It has to do with loving your neighbor.  This photo was taken several months ago when I attended a banquet hosted by “Move on Up”, an organization for the promotion of “black conservatives”.  I am grateful there are groups willing to stand up and offer some cultural counterbalance.

As a child growing up on the South side of Chicago, I don’t recall even noticing the differences between skin color.  It was a non-issue.  We judged our neighbors on how well they could play “Old Maid”, “Kick the Can” or “King of the Hill”.  I don’t remember any riots or being afraid to walk down the street.
