A New Kind of Fishing Lure
What does Missouri have in common with Washington State? We both play host to Boeing. I love having Boeing in our state! Some of my best constituents and donors work there, many from when it was McDonnell-Douglass. Every year Boeing would arrange for a tour for the legislators and I went as often as possible to show them the respect they deserve for being with us. I have seen these airplanes being built from start to finish. It is a beautiful operation and we are very proud of Boeing.
The economic developers in any state will clamor to compete for these businesses. Boeing in the St. Louis area employs about 15,000 people. Boeing in Everett, Washington employs about 56,000. However, a few weeks ago 67% of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) union employees in Everett turned down a contract. Now Boeing is looking elsewhere for where they will build their next aircraft.

Happy Week After Thanksgiving
This year I had all my guests sing a few Thanksgiving songs before they could leave my house. It’s part of our culture. We all make a difference in defining our culture for ourselves as well as those around us. While any of my guests could have chosen to leave, my gentle pressure encouraged them to stay and as a result, we all had a happier day. Likewise, you can use your influence to change the direction of policies for the better. When government makes decisions, it will ultimately reflect the will of the people who exercise their influence. The one who hosts the dinner gets to pick the songs we sing. We the people, are hosting, sponsoring and financing our government.

What’s Next For Illinois and Missouri?
We all love the song, “God Bless America”. Yet, will God keep blessing us when our nation is passing laws every day that throw Biblical principles out of our culture? There is a wave of cultural change in our country striking at the bedrock of our society. The family is under attack. Even if your state supports marriage (one man and one woman), your city might be passing laws to unravel the marriage laws your state passed. The American way of life is inseparably intertwined with Judeo-Christian ethics.
When University City was trying to find a way to reward immorality in their city, I went to the City Council Meeting to speak out about this ordinance. Unfortunately, we were terribly outnumbered. Yet, we must never give up the fight for the soul of our communities.
A lot of folks give up if they focus on the observable results. As you can see from the photo, I was surrounded by the opposition, naysayers and people who are mocking our values. Even those in the Republican Party are now conflicted over whether they should continue to hold to their own platform.

The Future of Conservatism?
Like the song goes, “I’ve seen fire and I’ve seen rain… but I always thought I’d see you again.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3uaXCJcRrE When is our country going to come back? What has happened to the “Conservative Movement”? What has it done? The conservative movement has scored many victories in terms of getting conservatives elected. Yet, what happens to all that conservative sentiment after these candidates get sworn into office? Even with the new infusion of candidates who give great speeches about liberty on the campaign trail, the principles of conservatism have suffered defeat in actual legislative results. To use a football term, we are losing yardage.
How could we have a statement of values and beliefs, get our hands on the reigns of political power and have nothing to show for it? Government is growing bigger, the economic stability is becoming weaker, people are losing their medical insurance and more jobs are going to foreign countries. So what are we supposed to do to change the decline of our country?

Illegal Aliens, Immigration and Amnesty
In addition to enjoying all the beautiful leaves and fall festivals, a few weeks ago I went to Denver to speak on the topic of Illegal Immigration and Amnesty. For those of you who were not able to come, we are offering the audio for our Home Front Radio Show this evening. We have the right answers. Now it is up to our Congress to do what is right. With the looming amnesty battle raging in Washington DC, it’s time for us to think about what we are doing and ask what is fair, proper and best for our nation—not what’s best for the lobbyists—not what’s best for the political parties—but what will best serve our country’ integrity and unity in the future.
We owe it to ourselves and to our posterity to live within the rules and to find more intelligent and principled ways of governing. Some people think the congress will turn our immigration system into a free-for-all as the office holders pander to get votes.
The American citizens, who came here legally, are often better citizens than the natural born ones because they have a perspective that makes them so grateful for the freedoms, markets and virtue they find in our country. Most of them know more about our history, civics and our constitution than those who have lived here all their lives. They struggled to go through the proper channels and are working to make our country great through assimilation, not invasion.

What’s the Best Part about America?
We might as well discuss this while we still have the freedom of speech. Islam is not a cultural issue; it’s a political issue. While other religions are focused on God, the devil or idol worship, Islam is the only religion that is also focused on changing our governmental structure. Our Declaration of Independence says, “All men are created equal and are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights.” This is why, among other rights, we have freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom of the press, which makes it great be an American!
Islam teaches that not all people are equal, and the Muslims will rule the world. so we are faced with a premise that is unworkable. I can’t imagine any relationship that would work when it revolves around one person who cannot be questioned, considers the other one to be inferior and speech is prohibited on certain topics. The underdog might try to coexist, but unnecessary suffering and abuse are embedded into the structure.

“Lovers Gonna Love & Haters Gonna Hate”
Christian persecution is a reality in foreign countries, but we never thought we would see it here in the land of the free and the home of the brave. We sometimes see people being mean spirited in the private sector, but when it comes from our government, it’s time to call a foul. Whether you like the man occupying the White House or not, he is the commander of the military and is ultimately, responsible for the behavior of all branches of our military. This week the Army started training their soldiers to view Christians and those who adhere to Biblical principles as domestic haters.
Communists, Muslims, Atheists and those who are hostile to the Bible have historically despised Christians. Now we find ourselves in a situation where our government is treating Christians, who stand for protecting innocent life and have done more to help the planet than any other group of people, (Salvation Army, hospitals, soup kitchens, Samaritan’s Purse, YMCA, prison ministries, food pantries, helping foreign countries, etc.) as though they were the bad guys.

Where Do We Go From Here?
Here we are at the Covenant America Conference with Sheriff Mack, Ray Kish and Laurie Kish in Kansas City. I was asked to speak before Glenn Beck in one of the break out sessions. For those of you who were unable to make it to the conference, you can watch the talk I gave here:
I have seen government programs suspended by strikes, but I never thought I would see a day when people would be punished and even threatened with arrest if they offer their services voluntarily to help others and ease the stress. Usually during tumultuous times the beauty of the American Spirit rises up and we prove that we can and will take care of ourselves.
With so much daily news on the partial government shutdown and the vindictive, even going as far as to attacking the right for the military to worship, behavior coming out of Washington DC, it’s time for some good news.

Obamacare: What it Means to Us
Ready or not, here it comes. Unless you are an expert in the insurance industry, it is nearly impossible to understand the full impact of Obamacare on our country. I moved here from Massachusetts nearly 29 years ago. We owe the Bay State a debt of gratitude for showing the nation a glimpse of how a mini-Obamacare model works. To break it down, Obamacare is simply a long list of mandates and bureaucratic regulations dictating what providers must offer if they want to stay in business.
When I was in the legislature, the vast majority, including those who called themselves conservative, supported Obamacare type insurance mandates. Insurance mandates are actually very politically popular, especially among the special interest groups that stand to benefit. The only part that is not popular is the escalated premiums. When searching my legislative history of voting against Obamacare types of mandates, it’s easy to find my name because I am always on a short list of legislators who voted “No”. Legislation shouldn’t be a matter of who’s the most “warm and fuzzy” or the bigness of one’s heart. The force of government is very strong and should only be implemented for the purposes of punishing the guilty and protecting the innocent, not interfering with the way free markets work.
