  • A Natural Born Citizen

This is the float we used for several parades. One trailer was made to simulate a British war ship and the other was made to represent Fort McHenry. We played The Star Spangled Banner over a sound system and enjoyed watching people stand as we passed their section! I liked reminding the parade watchers of the price that we paid to preserve our American independence.

Our Nation is at the crossroads again.  The question is whether we will live within our Constitution.  When Barack Obama was offered as a candidate by the Democrat Party, very few knew the definition of a “Natural Born Citizen” and that it is a requirement for anyone running for President of the United States.  There was more discussion about this after the election than before.  That’s when I got involved.  I started studying the question and through the process learned that the problem is that most Americans have never learned enough about our country to know what the Constitution requires of us.

A natural born citizen is a person who has a mother and father who are both American citizens.  Both have to be American citizens.  If one is not an American citizen, the child can be an American citizen, but will never be “natural born”.  A citizen with parents who are citizens from two different countries is a “dual citizen”.

  • Happy Valentine’s Day!

The Davis Ladies wishing you a Happy Valentine's Day! Cathryn, Susanna, my mom (Marylin), me and Amanda
The Davis Ladies wishing you a Happy Valentine’s Day! Cathryn, Susanna, my mom (Marylin), me and Amanda

Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to show others how much we love them.  As Mr. Rogers used to sing, “There are many ways to say ‘I love you’.”  Sometimes those on the Left accuse those on the Right of not being loving because we don’t believe in wealth redistribution.  To the contrary, we believe the greatest way to love others is to release them from the snares that hold them in political, spiritual or financial poverty.  These snares can only be opened up by friends, families, churches and communities, not governmental programs.  Government does not exist to give love or to make up for others who should be showing love to their networks.  Government exists to punish evildoers when they step outside the bounds of civil society.

Another way to love people is to share truth with them.  In a recent debate, Ken Ham and Bill Nye discussed scientific theories of our origins.    We don’t have to hold identical opinions, but we should agree that nobody was there to tell us what actually happened.  Science is based upon observation.  It is impossible to re-observe an event that only happened once.  If we can’t agree on whether God exists, we will continue to run into unresolvable disagreements on our origins.  If a person wants to disqualify all evidence pointing to a created order, his personal philosophy will distort the results.

  • Guns

    Guns 1

    Word for the Day:  Hoplophobia:

    n. Irrational, morbid fear of guns (coined by Col. Jeff Cooper, from the Greek “hoplites,” weapon). May cause sweating, faintness, discomfort, rapid pulse, nausea, sleeplessness, more, at mere thought of guns. Hoplophobes are common and should never be involved in setting gun policies. Point out hoplophobic behavior when noticed, it is dangerous, sufferers deserve pity, and should seek treatment. When confronted, hoplophobes typically go into denial, a common characteristic of the affliction. Often helped by training, or by coaching at a range, a process known to psychiatry as “desensitization,” often useful in treating many phobias. Also: Hoplophobe, hoplophobic.

While I was at the store this week, I noticed some items scanned at a higher price than what was marked on the shelf.  I had a choice.  I could either not buy the items or I could ask a manager to follow me back to the shelf to verify the price.  My first thought was to skip it because there was a long line of other customers behind me (and one never knows if they will remember this next election!).  However, I ended up getting the manager because I knew I was correcting the price for the hundreds of others who might be in the same predicament.

The same is true with the way government regulates guns.  We owe it to others who come behind us to not cower in the corner and let the bad guys run us away.  This is not about whether you want to own a gun for yourself or not.  It’s about standing together for our Constitutional right to bear arms.  Our Founding Fathers saw firsthand what can happen when people quit fighting for what’s right.  They wanted to make sure we would be able to stand against those who are seeking to harm us.  There are many articles written when something bad happens because of a gun, but very few about guns saving the innocent.

  • Accountability

    Accountability 1
This is a photo of my Locke and Smith Foundation Granite Plaque and Certificate of Excellence presented to me by the only organization that grants awards on the basis of how constitutional a legislator voted.

Were it not for citizens who volunteer their time and energy to read over 2,000 bills, most people would have no idea what is happening behind the closed doors in our Capitol.  Yet, don’t we owe it to ourselves and all who support campaigns to unveil Leftist Socialist voting patterns?  Yes.  Yes.  Yes.

It’s time to be brave, bold and not back down when it comes to our government and our future.  Once a law is passed, it is nearly impossible to take it back.  This is why we must engage in the process and why we must be tireless in our vigilance.

  • Celebration of Life

    Celebration of Life 1
This photo was from the Missouri State Fair. I stopped by the Missouri Right to Life Booth to thank the volunteers for their tireless work and for their support for my campaign. Missouri Right to Life is an organization committed to helping people understand the importance of voting for life. They truly put the principle of life ahead of political partisanship.

This week marks a lamentable chapter in America when our Supreme Court made a decision as unjust as abetting slavery.  (The Dred Scott Decision)  A day will come when the supreme court justices, ruling that human life is not protected under the Constitution, will be embarrassed by their jurisprudence.  Until that day, it is appropriate for us to continue being a conscience for others and to use this anniversary as a reminder of how nefarious a country can become, with this decision only less than 30 years after Germany was gassing to death the Jews, the handicapped and those who attempted to protect them.

  • The Rewriting of America’s History

The Rewriting of America's History 1
This is a photo of me near the monument of The Ten Commandments at the Missouri State Capitol. Our country has a vast number of gems that made us a great nation.

This week is the first week back to session for many legislatures across our country.  As I have been reviewing some of the proposed laws, most of them are not improvements to those we already have in place.  Regardless of the political party in the majority, all states are passing laws every year that remove more of our freedoms and grow bigger governments.  My mother frequently told me “Actions speak louder than words.”  When listening to your elected officials, we need to focus on how they vote because that is what will ultimately affect us.

A majority of our problems stem from a lack of education; yet we are spending more on education than ever in history!  Clearly, the problem is rooted in what is being taught.  The education system has been pushing a distorted world view on our children for years.  Schools used to teach virtue, patriotism and Biblical values in the classroom, particularly incorporating these principles into history, reading and writing.

  • Remember the Alamo!

    Remember the Alamo 1

The story of the Alamo can be summarized by explaining that some brave soldiers fought to preserve their territory.  They fought to the death for what they believed and are honored in history for their heroism.  Today there is another battle brewing in San Antonio over a new law with the capacity to stifle our First Amendment freedom of speech and freedom of religion rights.  Our right to think for ourselves, especially when it favors virtue, is inalienable.

I’ve visited the city of San Antonio twice—once for the National League of Cities Conference and another time when our son graduated from Air Force Military Boot Camp.  San Antonio has a great tradition for which it should be proud.  Now the San Antonio City Council has brought more national attention to itself by passing a new law.   This law may be able to disqualify anyone from serving as an elected official, an appointed official, or from having any contract with the city if that person has ever spoken out against perversion or attends a church where the pastor has spoken out against perversion.

  • This is Going To Be a Great Year!

Going to be a Great Year 1
We are doing our part —with Cindy Redburn, Randy Stufflebeam and his wife, Lisa, in Back to Basics Christian Bookstore

Sometimes when  we hear news about the state of our country and our economy, we can tend to feel like nothing is making a difference.  Yet, we have a few bright spots to share with you.  One of the highlights was launching our pod-cast.

Last week, we BROKE ALL RECORDS for the number of people listening to our show.  Do you believe people can change the course of the country by throwing new ideas into the media marketplace?  While many unthinking Americans appear to be gobbling up whatever slop the mainstream media throws into the feeding trough, I am here to serve a balanced meal filled with the kind of nutritious ideas that can make our country healthy again.

  • End of Year Wrap Up

End of Year Wrap Up 1
One of the best parts about Christmas is the beautiful music. This year our son sang some Christmas songs for the St. Louis Women’s Connection.

There are lots of reasons to like Christmas.  For those who are politically astute, Christmas provides an opportunity for us to refocus on what is really important, faith, family and showing love.  The special moments that strengthen our interpersonal relationships might even obscure the miseries of the horrible weather outside.

Yet, about 100 years ago when the rest of the nation was enjoying their beautiful Christmas celebrations with horse drawn carriages and candles lighting their real Christmas trees, our Congress was proposing some of the worst legislation in the history of our nation.  Our country was far more Left-leaning than it is today.  The Socialist Party garnered 6% of the presidential vote.  A member of the Socialist Party held an office in Congress, and the Democrat Party had the majority in both chambers of Congress and in the White House.

  • A Convention of the States

    A Convention of the States
Last week at the performance of the St. Charles County Christian Home Educators Bel Canto Choir. This is a photo with Tracey Sutton at the Twin Oaks Estate in O’Fallon. We were greeted by a wonderful audience of residents, and they enjoyed hearing our Christmas songs.

One of the best parts about the Christmas season is the opportunities to get together with others.  While most of us are spending our energies baking cookies, singing carols and shoveling snow, some state legislators are thinking about how to protect our country from the constitutional abuses we are seeing from the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of our government.

While the news media outlets have been carrying plenty of stories of how our congress continues to make bad decisions, most of us can only feel disappointed and frustrated.  So far, the only remedy we have been offered is to change our elected officials whenever they come up for election again.  Another election occurs, they get reelected, and we end up with another term of disappointment and frustration.
