  • Obama on Motherhood

A special friend, Mary Walsh, surprised me with a visit at my Back to Basics Christian Bookstore with her precious little baby. She and I worked together to legalize the midwives before she had even met her husband. It's amazing to see the fruition of our efforts.

Is President Obama’s focus on protecting our nation from foreign invasions and terrorist attacks or is he trying to be the “social engineer in chief”? I find it to be terribly off task for him to even be commenting on how we can get more of our children into institutionalized or outsourced child care settings.

As those in favor of socialism try to foist their ideology on America, it’s important for us to identify where this philosophy is flawed.

While Obama was still running to be the President, he started by telling America “If they [my daughters] make a mistake, I don’t want them punished with a baby” (view video here.) So, if we begin with the premise that motherhood is a punishment, that explains the beginning of the problem.

  • Ferguson

This is just one picture of hundreds showing the carnage created by angry, hateful, and often fatherless people.

What you saw last week was a spectacle of ungodly behavior. We are tired of hearing the news. I, like many of you, was disappointed to see people trash their own city.

Ferguson is a symbol of what happens when a culture turns away from love to hatred. Families fall apart, values are not taught and then it becomes toxic.

I believe there are plenty of Christians who still live there, but we are witnessing anti-Christlike behavior on a major scale.

No matter how bad you think our system is, there is no excuse for breaking “The Ten Commandments”…and they are breaking plenty of them (stealing, coveting, taking the Lord’s name in vain, and rejecting the command to love our neighbors as ourselves).

  • Happy Thanksgiving

    Happy Thanksgiving 1
There’s nothing like family. If you don’t have a family to share Thanksgiving with, my suggestion is that you find a family to join. Most people will be happy to have you over if you bring something to contribute to the meal. My daughter, at Kansas State University, offered to bring two extra people home with her so that they can experience Thanksgiving with a group. By the time they leave, we will have gotten them into our culture!
  • Can you Fight City Hall?

There's nothing that will put a damper on a happy day more quickly than being pulled over by the police.
There’s nothing that will put a damper on a happy day more quickly than being pulled over by the police.

The old expression goes, “You can’t beat City Hall”. Maybe we can! Recently the O’Fallon City Council passed a new law that virtually allows the police to pull people over for nearly any reason.

You have heard the expression that some people can’t walk and chew gum at the same time. This law presumes we can’t drive and chew gum at the same time. If you didn’t like the red light cameras, you’re not going to like this one either. Despite the propaganda you may hear about doing anything in the car while driving, this is nothing more than “taxation through citation”. The police are there to protect us, not to try to extract additional revenue out of those who pass through their city.

  • Veterans Day

I can't say who this is or what he is doing because of military regulations. Suffice it to say, he is a very close relative and I had some part in bringing him into the world. I am very proud of him for doing his part to protect and defend out country. I am proud of all people who are serving in the military. This particular photo was snapped at a celebration when he became an officer. I won't disclose what branch, but we are proud of all our branches, especially those branches that fly airplanes.

For those of you who get confused between Veterans Day and Memorial Day, Veterans Day is the day we celebrate those who are living now and are currently serving or previously served in the military.

Considering the tenuous nature of our foreign policy coming down from the Commander in Chief, I as a mother, have reasons to be concerned. Regardless of how you may feel about foreign entanglements, the best approach is to offer our encouragement and support to those who are obligated to protect us.

  • Houston, We Have a Problem

    Houston 1

If you are my age or older, you will remember when Houston was the home of “Mission Control” for our space missions. We should feel sorry for our children that they won’t know the wonders of NASA. It seems our government traded NASA for the NSA spying on us. Instead of exploring new frontiers, our government is obsessed with exploring our personal e-mail, phone records and monitoring what we say on Facebook. Yet, the loss of our space program is only an indicator of different priorities from our national government.

Another symptom of a change in our country is what is happening down in Houston. (Houston to Pastors: Forget Your Sermons Now Want Your Speeches) When I heard about how the Mayor of Houston was treating her churches, the first thought that popped into my head was how much I wish I lived in Houston so I could run against her in the next election. You can relax. I’m not seriously thinking of doing this! (Mom, don’t worry.)

One week from today, all states will be holding elections. In addition to having your opportunity to select your favorite candidate, there are some ballot issues to be considered.

    Consider this:

  • Who’s the Baby’s Daddy?

It's hard to have sympathy for those purposefully attempting to bring a baby into the world with a complete stranger and then complain because the baby looks like her daddy. Ohio Sperm Bank Mixup

This story turned out to be the perfect way to give some unwanted publicity to the gamete selling industry. In case you missed the story, two women, living a aberrant lifestyle tried to prove they could bear children and made an offer to purchase genetic material from the same anonymous donor. Due to an error in reading the handwriting, they were sold material from Donor # 330 instead of Donor # 380. The results proved that it’s not a good idea to try to fool mother nature. The mother is now trying to sue the vendor for the hardship she has incurred from the fact that her child has some of her father’s features.

One goal of feminism is to prove the interchangeability of the genders. If women are trying to make a point that there is no difference between men and women, they run into a few difficulties.

The idea that gender is interchangeable fails abruptly when it comes to bringing children into the world. Women cannot reproduce without men and men cannot reproduce without women. That’s a biological fact.

This presents a problem for those who want to normalize perversion. Some want to pretend to be married and exert themselves attempting to mimic a natural family. To make up for the obvious biological roadblock, these people have turned to fertility clinics to buy the missing parts from strangers.

  • Marriage

This is a picture of me and my husband taken about 32 years ago when we were about 22 years old. We were living in Massachusetts and didn't have all the "stuff" many others had, but we had a lot of the things money cannot buy and government cannot give you.

THEY LIED TO US! Most of you have heard the statistic that about half of all marriages break apart. However, those numbers are wrong.

A few weeks ago, Phyllis Schlafly asked me to join her as a co-host for her nationwide radio program, Eagle Forum Live. Our guest was Shaunti Feldhahn, a well-respected author and public policy analyst, and we talked about marriage.

Shaunti said this: “There is no such thing as a 50 % divorce rate. It’s never been close. Right now 72 percent of people are still married to their first spouse—that’s Census Bureau data.”

Of the 28 percent who are no longer married to their first spouse, a good chunk of those people were married when their spouse died. We behave in accordance with our belief system. (CBN News article: Divorce Shocker Most Marriages Do Make It)

  • Withholding the Money

This photo was taken while I was speaking to the body of House Members in the House Chamber. I served under a Democratic Governor, then a Republican Governor, than a Democratic Governor. We had a lot of moments of political wrangling while I was there.
This photo was taken while I was speaking to the body of House Members in the House Chamber. I served under a Democratic Governor, then a Republican Governor, then a Democratic Governor. We had a lot of moments of political wrangling while I was there.

Party political wrangling can be ugly. One side will desperately try to find ways to make the other side look bad. Partisan operatives then showcase themselves and make sure the voters know how much better it is to always vote for their party brand, regardless of the particular candidate. This is how they build brand loyalty.

One of my friends told me that both Republicans and Democrats spend about the same amount of money. It’s just where they spend it that differs. The party in control will tend to reflect the priorities of their party. Democrats tend to like more social welfare programs and Republicans tend to like more corporate welfare programs. Regardless of the rhetoric you hear during the campaign season, the budget continues to grow every year.

Bob Holden was a Democratic Governor when I was first elected and he had to “work” with a Republican majority. The Governor used his Constitutional prerogative to withhold money from public education due to a budget shortfall. During the State of the State speech, the Speaker Pro-Tem, Rod Jetton, had heard enough blaming and yelled out, “Release the money, Governor!”

Amendment # 10, which is on your ballot in November, is more about partisan wrangling over who will control the purse strings. It contains a mix of good and bad together. If you mix a good idea with the right amount of bad ideas, everyone has a reason to vote for it or against it. You will not feel the effects of this either way. Here’s the question:

Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended to require the governor to pay the public debt, to prohibit the governor from relying on revenue from legislation not yet passed when proposing a budget, and to provide a legislative check on the governor’s decisions to restrict funding for education and other state services?
