It’s easy to be happy during the holidays, but it’s not the happiest time of the year for everyone.  Some people have a hard time around the holidays because of the instability in the relationships surrounding them.  Broken relationships and broken marriages affect many more people than just the two parties involved.

There is no governmental solution to make people stay together.  However, the government offers perverse incentives for single parenthood.  Additionally, the government has the power to put additional harm on people who are already in difficult situations.  We are at the point where the government has its tentacles in every part of our lives.

We may not be able to correct all the wrongs of governmental manipulation in one day, but there is much more we can do and there is much more churches can do to improve these situations.  Some churches do a good job of having compassion for the poor, but of those who do, many fail to address the underlying issues causing their misery.

If you have been a causality of the cultural slide and broken relationships, you may enjoy listening to our show today.

We had a special event at Back To Basics Christian Bookstore when we were in our first location.  We did a half price sale for any lady who came wearing a wedding dress.  "The Bridge" radio station came out and did a live broadcast at our store and hundreds of people came out for it.

We are doing our part in keeping the family together – no divorces in the marriages of our kids or grandkids and we will celebrate our 61st anniversary December 11. We also know the hard times as one of our daughters (Janet – age 46) passed away a couple of years ago of a brain aneurysm. The heartache of losing a daughter so young doesn’t fade away. She was a teacher in the Ft. Zumwalt North high school for 25 years and had retired one year. Her 2 daughters (one is 19 and the other 18) are still doing well. We also lost a son-in- law to colon cancer at age 37.
So we have “been there” – but God has been sufficient for us and we are OK. Thank you for your efforts in government. We agree with you.

What if my religious views differ from yours? Whose religion takes precedent? What if pick and choose which religious views to enforce from your bible?

    Hi Cynthia,
I enjoy your emails. Thank you for your dedication to improving our culture and nation. I think the civil ceremony and sacramental ceremony should be separated like in the rest of the Chrisitian western world. A lot of people get confused since the two are intertwined in the United States. I think there would be a greater appreciation for the sacramental aspect of marriage if they had a civil ceremony separate from the sacramental. I also believe some of these new Governors along with their state legislature need to push an agenda of undoing all the bad family laws of the 1960s and 1970s. I hope Eric Greitens understands that “no fault” divorce produces no benefit to either party. I think through prayer, sacrifice, and living out a Christian life such as you and your family do, the culture will be transformed over time. Thanks and God bless.

Everything Steve said is true. In addition: women think that since divorce is entitled, that their standard of living will not change. This is untrue. The average divorce with children starts at a cost of $50,000 cash and easily goes over $100k if there is a long custody battle. Most families do that have that kind of cash, so they end up selling the house and major assets, and are angry with each other for a long time. Divorce poverty is another reason why states tend to order lots of child support and lock up anybody who cannot afford to support two households (which is what the non-custodial parent has to do).
