Among the many visitors to the Capitol from our district this week were Jennifer Meyer and her son, Ed.   We gathered a few extra representatives from St. Charles County to round out the photo.  (Left to Right: Mark Parkinson, Anne Zerr, Doug Funderburk, Cynthia Davis, Jennifer with son Ed, Chuck Gatschenberger and Joe Smith.)

Cynthia in the News

Last week I was on the Dave Glover Show to debate the national health care bill with Jacki Schechner, National Communications Director for Health Care for America Now, from Washington D.C.  I asked her why they called it a health care bill rather than the insurance-compulsion bill.  It would benefit my bookstore if the national government would pass a law requiring everybody in this country to have a Bible in every household, but that would be wrong.  I have been in the retail industry for over 21 years and can attest that in America if something is worth it, people buy it.  The same is true when it comes to medical insurance.  It's called trading.  That's how free markets work.

When people say this healthcare bill will reduce the uninsured, guarantee medical treatments and cost everybody less, something doesn't add up.  Interview on Health Care: http://cynthiadavis.net/audio.html

Tea Party Express Stops for Rally In St. Charles

Rain Couldn't Stop the Rally Or Keep Followers From Showing Up

FOX2now.com

5:30 PM CDT, April 5, 2010

ST. CHARLES, MO (KTVI-FOX2now.com) - Hundreds of tea party supporters attended a rally along the St. Charles Riverfront Monday afternoon. St. Charles County Executive Steve Ehlmann was among the crowd, "I'm very impressed with this kind of turnout," he said. When asked why he came he said he supported the tea party efforts to change Washington, "The government takeover of the health care system," explained Ehlmann.

A small group of counter demonstrators held signs calling for a civil discussion of the issues.

"This is democracy in action. We knew we could come and make our statement, too. Just like the tea party group, we're making our statement," said Franklin McCallie, a member of Kirkwood United for Health Care.

Tea Party supporters feel the media have focused on the extremists in these crowds instead of their overall message.

"The issues that folks here are interested in is fiscal conservatism and constitutional governance," said Dave Evans, candidate for the Missouri State House of Representatives.

"We're tired of the pandering politicians who are made out of cardboard and say anything they want to say at election time and then after the election is over they do whatever they darn well please," said State Rep. Cynthia Davis, O'Fallon, MO.

She believes the tea party rallies will send a message to Congress, "We want you to quit bloating the budget and understand what limited government is and get a grip on who your constituents are and we're a force to be reckoned with and were not going to take it anymore."

The Tea Party Express will roll on to Springfield, Illinois next. The bus tour will end in Washington, D.C. on tax day, April 15th. The statement they hope to make is that Americans are already paying too much in taxes.

A Little Bit of Humor . . .

A little boy wanted $100 so badly that he prayed for two weeks. But nothing happened; so he decided to write God a letter asking for the money. When the postal authorities received the letter addressed to "GOD, USA", they decided to send it to the President. He was so impressed, touched, and amused that he instructed his secretary to send the boy a $5 bill.

The little boy was delighted with the $5, and sat down to write a thank you note to God, which read; "Dear God, Thank you very much for sending me the money. However, I noticed that for some reason you had it sent through Washington, DC, and as usual, those guys deducted $95."
