Town Hall Meeting on Healthcare Bill

Last week I was honored to share the platform with U.S. Congressman, Todd Akin, during his Town Hall meeting to discuss the national healthcare debacle.  The meeting started with a prayer which added a poignant moment to the morning and made a statement about what is really important.

While congress is resorting to chicanery to reduce our choices in healthcare, I am happy to report to you that my Missouri Healthcare Freedom Act: HJR 48 passed the House this week!  Now it is time for the Senate to do the right thing and agree with the House to put it on the ballot so Missourians have an opportunity to vote on it in November.  To read my Capitol Report on healthcare freedom follow this link:  Capitol Report on Health Care

It might be easy to be discouraged because the national healthcare bill is too expensive; does not include a broad spectrum of medical choices; involves a big tax increase; reduces competition, innovation and cost saving ideas; and is an expansion of socialism and promotion of pro-death policies.  However, I am optimistic because over 2,225 people came out to hear our message, and we are functioning as a conscience for the country.

When a person has a conscience, he might still do wrong; however, at least he is aware of the wrong-doing.  The process of having thoughtful debate on a national level is so dysfunctional; the only way they can foist their healthcare bill on us is by resorting to harsh partisan tactics.  This is a disappointment.  However, we still live in the greatest country ever in history and our American spirit continues to be strong.  It can be stressful to engage in the fight to preserve our freedoms, yet I am constantly renewed and invigorated in my spirit by hearing from you and knowing you care.

Our office welcomed high school TeenPactR student, Ellen Westover, and some of her colleagues.  TeenPactR is a national organization with local chapters that teaches the foundations of legislative government. They were participating in a week-long session at the Missouri State Capitol.  We support and encourage all the TeenPact teens who get involved in their government.  These are our future leaders.

MO-DOT Lane Closures

There will be nightly lane closures next week on Eastbound I-70 @ Zumbehl for bridge painting.

Next week is the start of several months of work on the I-70 corridor between Highway K in O'Fallon and the Missouri River as well as 10 bridges (Four bridges are located at Highway K, Belleau Creek, Route 79, Dardenne Creek, Mid Rivers, and three are at the I-70/370 interchange, Cave Springs and Zumbehl).  Most work will be done at night and some work will take place on weekends.  If you experience some delays, just turn on your favorite radio station and remember these are your tax dollars at work.

A Little Bit of Humor . . .

If you ever wondered about bias in the media, here are two articles on the very same subject, but look at the opposite headlines:

Mo. House passes health care resolution
KWMU
State Representative Cynthia Davis (R, O'Fallon, MO) maintained that Democrats in Congress are seeking to take over the nation's health care industry. ...

House seeks to block US health care plan in Missouri
Kansas City Star
Cynthia Davis (R - O'Fallon) likening the federal bill to a destructive flooded river. Rep. Brian Nieves (R - Washington, MO) . . .

A Little Bit of Additional Humor . . .

Have you noticed that more doctors are running their practices like an assembly line?

One fella walked into a doctor's office and the receptionist asked him what he had.

He said, "Shingles."

So she took down his name, address, medical insurance number and told him to have a seat.

Fifteen minutes later a nurse's aide came out and asked him what he had.

He said, "Shingles."

So she took down his height, weight, a complete medical history, and told him to wait in an examining room.

A half hour later a nurse came in and asked him what he had.

He said "Shingles."

So she gave him a blood test, a blood pressure test, an electrocardiogram, told him to take off all his clothes and wait for the doctor.

An hour later the doctor came in and asked him what he had.

He said, "Shingles."

The doctor said, "Where?"

He said, "Outside in the truck. Where do you want them?"
