Meet Denia

If you ever need help and call my office in Jefferson City , you will be greeted by my lovely assistant, Denia.  She has been a tremendous asset and shares my highest priority---taking excellent care of our constituents.  We make every effort to put our people first and demonstrate to others the most important part of government---being helpful, honest and responsive.

Foster Grandparents Program

Yesterday I had the privilege of presenting a speech and a resolution to the foster grandparents.  This is a program that connects senior volunteers with needy students.  Just as there are different kinds of needs, there are many different ways of filling those needs.  Instead of sitting in front of the TV or playing Bingo all day, these senior citizens are investing their time and lives in making a difference in others.

I applaud all of these volunteers who give their time and talent to connect with our younger generation in ways that will help them overcome problems and become productive members of our society.  Sometimes a little extra encouragement and support is all that is necessary to make a difference in the life of a child.

I enjoyed interacting with Millie Ocasio (r). She is the Foster Grandparent Program Coordinator for the counties of Lincoln , Warren and St. Charles .

Lisa Pitman (l) is the County Coordinator for the St. Charles office of the County Services Center which is part of the North East Community Action Corp (NECAC). The NECAC Central Administration Office is located in Bowling Green .

Mary Hutchison (on right) was a guest at the Banquet –she is the Director of Volunteer Programs for Community Council of St. Charles.

“No matter how big government gets, and no matter how many services it provides, it can never take the place of volunteers.
       - Ronald Reagan, 40th U.S. president

In response to the observation that volunteers are too often seen as amateurs: "Just remember: Noah's Ark was built by amateurs. The Titanic was built by professionals."
